- Year Built : 1976
- Engine : 250 cc Two-stroke single
- Transmission : 5-Speed
- Electrics : Nippon-Denso magneto with internal rotor & points
- Notable Features : One of our local neighbors in Houston bought this CR new from Southwest Honda in 1976, I've known the machine from its first minutes of running, Often ridden but never raced nor abused allowed it to survive without damage, During the late 80's the bike was brought to our shop to be upgraded & tuned, Buchanan's got the usual call for a pair of new Sun alloy rims and their SS spoke sets, New Dunlop knobbies were purchased along with the normal items such as DID 520 chain, sprockets, and genuine Honda gaskets & oil seals, Cylinder bore was well within factory tolerance and lightly honed, A genuine standard-sized Honda piston and ring was included in the rework, One transmission bearing was no longer perfect and it was replaced, Other than that all other motor components appeared as new, Testament to the CR's lack of being abused is seen by the condition of the side panels and still having its front number plate without damage, The seat also remains in great condition without rips or tears, All paint except the cylinder & head is factory-original, Additional photos showing various stages of the work can be seen in the " Services " section.
One final quip :The Honda's jetting was always one or two sizes too rich but it was never altered. During the rework I went through the carb but retained the same jetting. The CR was not fired again until sometime in 2009. I expected the factory settings to remain slightly rich but a premix using Track Tek 111 fuel and synthetic Motul 800 proved to be spot on. After 33 years it was finally making full power.
