Harley-Davidson BAJA 100
Technical Details
  • Year Built : 1972
  • Engine : 100 cc Two-stroke single
  • Transmission : 5-Speed
  • Electrics : Dansi flywheel magneto with points
  • Notable Features : Harley-Davidson's Baja was produced by their Aermacchi division in Varese Italy, First year bikes came on line as 1970 models and continued through 1974, Motor construction uses a " square " bore x stroke of 50 mm x 50 mm, For the times power from the 100 cc engines was above average but fell short when compared to Kawasaki's Centurion 100 with its rotary valve, Our example is a 1972 model and like most Harleys this one has a few modifications, The lighting kit with the funky tail light is a factory add-on and the motor has Harley's optional 56 mm piston kit bringing displacement to 125 cc, Baja cylinders were fully cast-iron & thick enough to be bored-out by the required 6 mm, An additional increase in power was achieved with an accessory expansion chamber, That pipe is shown in H-D's catalog as a genuine item but appears to be a product made by Torque Engineering in Calif, As shown the fuel tank mounted wears paint per the 1970 models, It's a quality repaint with correct graphics, The original 1972 tank was left in its factory condition and was included with the bike, It remains " like new ", All-in-all this Baja is relatively solid but could use some attention, A new reproduction seat cover is in hand & needs to be fitted.
