Electrics : Hitachi CDI magneto with internal rotor
Notable Features : Yamaha followed-up their first YZ125-C Monoshocker with the YZ125-X. The sleek styling remained but improvements were made. Greater horsepower came from revised cylinder porting and a larger 34 mm Mikuni carburetor. The CDI magneto & black box were also upgraded. Up front the big news was the Kayaba air-oil fork while a longer swing arm aided stability. The X-model shown here is a fine example in original condition. Its frame is solid and the forks are in perfect working order. The motor runs & revs like new and the close-ratio gears shift flawlessly. X-models were produced for only a half-year but more than 7000 were built. Subsequently, Yamaha race models for 1977 replaced the slender alloy fuel tanks with plastic parts and never looked as sharp.
