- Notable Features : Joel Wey in Colorado built and campaigned this classic Triumph dirt tracker, Components are genuine items typically used by either pro racers or serious amateurs during the late 1960's through early 1970's, Like his BSA ( also on Page 7 ) the Triumph uses a special nickel-plated frame but here the manufacturer was Trackmaster. Other specialties include :
Ceriani forks, S&W rear shocks, Spool hub wheels with quick-change sprockets, Airheart disc brake & master cylinder, ARD magneto, Carl's Sport Shop narrow primary cover, and Trackmaster's proprietary fuel tank displaying traditional Triumph logos & paint with ivory scallops.
This motor was manufactured by Triumph in February 1970 ( Factory BD code ), Motor modifications include a 750 cc Sonny Routt big-bore cylinder, Sifton 460 cams giving .400 " lift and 306 degrees duration at .020 " tappet lift, Norris valve springs, and the head with its ports and intake manifolds carefully matched & smoothed. Carburetors are 34 mm Mikuni type VM with round slides, Exhaust pipes are TT headers with 1.750 " OD. Motor has a connection to one of the Palmgren brothers possibly Larry's, Data log shows Norris cams were used at one time but Sifton cams currently installed make excellent power over a wide range of RPM, Johnson Cams advertises their Sifton # 460 reproductions as " Not for the faint of heart " and there is truth in advertising, The exact frame model used to assemble this Triumph race bike was known as a " Trackmaster Miler ", Miler frames were fabricated with a large diameter 4130 Cr-Moly steel tube backbone serving both structural duty and acting as a high-capacity oil tank for the dry-sump British engines, It was Ray Hensley's design for Class C long-track racing, To augment the extra capacity an oil-cooling radiator from a Triumph / BSA triple is also mounted.
